K. Arsenault Rivera was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, but has lived in New York since she was a toddler. While not managing a nutritional supplement store in Brooklyn, Rivera is an avid participant in the roleplaying community, from which she drew inspiration for her debut novel, The Tiger’s Daughter. It’s rare to even imagine this type of young debut author—no formal training, no MFA culture, or short story publications— but surely, fitting for a fantasy writer— the stuff that publishing legends are made from.
