Jim Hall

Jim Hall was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Falls Church, Va. He received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., and a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. He lives now in Fredericksburg, Va. His 36-year newspaper career included stints as a reporter and editor, first at The Caroline Progress, a weekly in Bowling Green, Va., and then at The Free Lance-Star, a daily in Fredericksburg. He retired in 2013. Hall is the father of two sons and a certified emergency medical technician. The Last Lynching in Northern Virginia is his first book. It grew from the work he did for his master’s thesis when he studied lynchings in Virginia and how newspapers covered them.
