Narrative journalist, longtime activist, and Fulbright Scholar to South Africa, Kimberly Burge has written a new book, The Born Frees: Writing With the Girls of Gugulethu about a creative writing group that unites and inspires girls of the first South African generation “born free.” Burge is joined by Matt Burriesci, author of numerous stories and the AWP award-winning novel, Nonprofit. His newest book, Dead White Guys: A Father, A Daughter, and the Great Books of the Western World, is a defense of 26 great books from Plato to Karl Marx. Burriesci applies their lessons not only to his own life, but to the life of his prematurely-born daughter.
