About the Event
Two writers discuss power, position, and moving forward: M.M. Bailey in her flash piece “Smaller,” and Yermiyahu Ahron Taub in his poem “The Light at the Beginning of the Tunnel.” Bailey and Taub are two of the hundred writers from DC, Maryland, and Virginia featured in This is What America Looks Like – the first anthology from The Washington Writers’ Publishing House in 25 years. The book showcases work that represents this landmark historical moment of a social justice movement in the midst of a global pandemic. Editor Caroline Bock drops by to discuss the importance of these works.

M.M. Bailey lives in Alexandria, VA, and studied Political Science, Philosophy, and Literature before receiving her MFA from George Mason University. Her work can be found in the anthology, This is What America Looks Like, and her Pushcart-nominated piece can be found in the anthology, Furious Gravity. She teaches academic writing and is currently working on her first dystopian fiction novel, The Undetermined.
Yermiyahu Ahron Taub is a poet and writer in English and Yiddish and a Yiddish translator. He is the author of two books of fiction, Beloved Comrades: a Novel in Stories (2020) and Prodigal Children in the House of G-d: Stories (2018), and six volumes of poetry, including A Mouse Among Tottering Skyscrapers: Selected Yiddish Poems (2017). Yermiyahu’s most recent translation from the Yiddish is May God Avenge Their Blood: a Holocaust Memoir Triptych by Rachmil Bryks (2020). Please visit his website at https://yataubdotnet.wordpress.com.
